Ever get the sense your friends are messing with you? That’s what happened to me last night at Los Primos Escondido (oh, i miss you “da cousins”). I had been studying the account of the demonized man in Mark 5 all day and was ready to do a carne asada mind-melt before heading home. Apparently I had more to learn.
Sitting next to me was a lady dressed like a witch. A perfectly nice, bothering nobody witch. I’m cool with that…it’s Halloween week. In walks a freaked out homeless lady, pleading with the staff for free food for her dog. Dirty, loud, bug-eyed, socially-awkward…I’m cool with that. Dogs deserve good carne asada too.
What freaked me out was the other guy…the guy who sat down in the next booth over, facing my direction. Clean, neat, professional looking. And friendly.
And they came to Jesus and saw the demon-possessed man, the one who had had the legion, sitting there, clothed and in his right mind, and they were afraid. Mark 5:15
We live in an age where demonic distortions are the norm and sanctification is not.

Those in need are closer to the Kingdom than those who feel they have it all together.
