Nine months ago I was forwarded the following email from a guy I didn’t know who was moving to OC from Ohio…

From: Brian Chima
Date: Wed, 9 Dec 2009 14:37:27 -0500
To: Jason Reyes
Subject: Disney Details

[Pastor] Jason,

First off thank you for taking initiative to help me out when I get to California by talking to Eric. I think it’s so cool that even though I’m going to be so far away from MY Sovereign Grace Church I can be 20 minutes away from another one that’s preaching the same gospel. :) I’m so excited about this.

Here is what I know so far: I’ll be arriving at John Wayne airport in Orange County on Saturday January 16th (didn’t finalize a flight yet, but probably get there around noon – California time).

I’d love to go to the OC church that Saturday night and hopefully :) stay at someone’s house that night as I will NOT be allowed to check into my apartment yet.

The next morning, Sunday Jan 17th I need to check in at DisneyLand by 11am. I would need a ride to Disney by 11. From Disney I will probably take a bus to my apartment (depending on how long the check in process takes – maybe I could get a ride to my new apartment from the park by someone from the church).

I don’t know my work schedule at Disney yet.  But I will do my best to request Sat nights off so I can go to the OC church.  Jason, thanks again so much! I’m so thankful to God that you know the pastor of the OC church.

GodBless, Brian Chima

Turns out this guy was the real deal and it was bitter-sweet to see him return home this past Sunday.

Brian, you may have felt young and far from home, but I saw in you the qualities of a godly man…you love the Lord, love others, you’re honest, quick to serve, slow to promote yourself, and looking to lead.  Thanks bro.

Eric you’re too nice. It’s great to be home but I miss you all so much!
Interesting story – I flew from Orange County to Detroit, then from Detroit to Cleveland where my parents picked me up Monday morning. But on my flight from Detroit to Cleveland we had to make an emergency landing. The pilot’s put the flight gear down but it was not registering in the cockpit that the flight gear was down. All of us on the plane had to cross our arms and put them on the seat in front of us while putting our heads down. People were scared to death and some crying. When we went down for the landing the pilot said “Prepare for impact!” But sure enough the landing gear was down and we had a very smooth landing – Praise God! Waiting for us on the runway were 4 Cleveland airport firetrucks and 4 paramedic vehicles as well as many cop cars all with their lights flashing and waiting for us (guess they thought there was gonna be a huge explosion). Definitely one of the scariest experiences of my life.
Good to be home!

I think that’s how Cleveland welcomes all people returning from California!

Looking forward to reports of what God has planned for you next Brian.

Hi Brian! Sorry we couldn’t be there on Sunday to say good bye! We will miss your smiling face on Sundays for worship team set up! You are the happiest tech guy I have met! Thanks for blessing our church with your gifts and talents! You have been a wonderful gift for the past 6 months.

God bless you in Ohio as you finish your college education!

Love in Christ,
The Macadam Family
