I love a good party. Don’t you?
Last week was a good party and I’m praying (yes, praying!) we throw a lot more parties. This might surprise you…why would a pastor pray for his church to get good at throwing parties? How do parties fit into the mission of the church? Here are a few reasons:
- Parties are made up of people…generally the more the merrier. When I think of parties I think of people, not what we’ll be eating or drinking or the game we will play.
- Parties are a celebration and Sovereign Grace Church has a lot of reasons to celebrate.
- Parties attract guests. Prayer meetings do not. Some people find this trend disappointing. I don’t.
- Parties provide an opportunity to serve. You need a place to meet, food to eat, and fun to administrate.
- Parties make shared memories, which builds community.
- Parties encourage people to bless one another. I hope nobody is thinking “Let’s all get together to discourage Eric.”
- Parties combat loneliness. Friends on the periphery are drawn into the life of the church.

Sounds good to me – the work of the Lord should be a party = if we can’t help each other with joy, we shouldn’t even try.
